On Saturday night in Santa Clara, the San Jose Earthquakes served notice to the rest of the league by closing their three-game homestand with a stunning 4-0 win over Eastern Conference leaders New England in front of 9,859. Ronnie O’Brien had a pair of goals to open and close the scoring, while Ryan Johnson and Scott Sealy each added a goal in the Quakes’ biggest offensive output of the season. Read more »

Cannon hopes team can capitalize on momentum from Galaxy win

If the San Jose Earthquakes are going to make a serious run at a playoff berth, goalkeeper Joe Cannon thinks the time is now. The team’s stirring August 3 victory against the L.A. Galaxy has Cannon and the rest of the Quakes thinking that the struggles that marred the early season are finally behind them. “I remember games at old Spartan, it seemed like it was a special thing. Somehow we’d always pull off the result or the victory, and that was the first time with the new Quakes that I kind of felt like, this is something special.” Read more »

Possession will be the key as Earthquakes, Revolution face off Saturday

The bye week is over so we’re back at it, and I am thinking Thursday is video day at the San Jose Earthquakes training ground.  Typically in the Yallop - Kinnear sides Thursday and sometimes Friday mornings are film days.  Usual clips include ten minutes of the opponent’s style and strengths — what to look for, really.  It is entirely possible that the coaching staff will skip this week’s review to allow the Earthquake defenders some sleep tonight.  If Eric Denton watches the New England/Houston Superliga final in whole or just parts, he will wake up this evening in a cold sweat,  visions of 31-31-31-31 flying by.
